| Meet Ken Keelan |
Applied Trust’s newest senior engineer is a German import – sort of. Though a Colorado native, Ken Keelan spent the past two and a half years working as a contractor for the U.S. Army in Mannheim, Germany, before returning to Boulder and joining Applied Trust this spring. While in Germany, Ken’s primary responsibility was administering firewalls and access control lists for the U.S Army’s 5th Signal Command, which maintained the U.S. Military’s Command and Control network in Europe.When he wasn’t busy enforcing U.S. Army Europe (USAR EUR) security policy on the network perimeter, Ken and his wife Mary enjoyed the opportunity to embrace German culture and visit many surrounding countries, including Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. “The best part about Germany was all of the great beers and sausage,” notes Ken. “But it’s nice to come back to the States and not only be able to speak the language, but also to have stores that are open on Sundays.” ![]() While working for the Army Ken attained Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance, which will enable him to perform work that requires this clearance level for Applied Trust clients as well. Ken’s primary expertise is in Unix systems and networks, particularly Solaris. Ken also has experience with system backup and disaster recovery planning and in HIPAA Security and Privacy compliance. Ken has a B.A. in Physics and an M.S. in Telecommunications from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) #117276 and also holds the CompTIA Security+ and Juniper Networks JNCIA-FW credentials. Once Ken has finished unpacking, he plans to spend the summer finding a quality German beer importer and selling everything he owns that weighs more than 50 lbs.
