Applied Trust enhances its IT availability with standby diesel generator

Knowing that your emergency response team is going to be there “no matter what” brings peace and safety to your environment. With many of our clients, Applied Trust acts as the technical backstop during incidents at their site – we’re available 7x24 to deal with any IT emergency, whether it’s related to security, performance, or availability. For this reason, Applied Trust’s infrastructure must be available well into the 5-nines range. To achieve this goal, we installed a 60 KW standby generator at our corporate offices in Boulder this spring. This ensures that critical Applied Trust systems can maintain operation during any natural or manmade events that interrupt power. Although Applied Trust was already using standard Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) to provide backup power to workstations and servers, the generator will dramatically increase availability by providing up to 72 hour of power without refueling.

Applied Trust celebrated its successful generator implementation with a generator-warming party on March 14 that included clients, families, and friends and featured a stellar performance by Colorado-based bluegrass band Head For the Hills. While the band was on set break, the generator got its moment of glory when the power was cut over while the party goers looked on; it performed as advertised by kicking in after just a three-second delay, to the delighted applause of the audience!

Although we hope to not find ourselves in many situations requiring extensive use of the backup generator, we’re proud to have a highly available environment for our employees and our clients.
