Applied Trust Engineer Earns GIAC Certification

BOULDER, Colo. – [October 23, 2007] Applied Trust announced today that one of its senior engineers, Paul Nelson, has earned the GIAC Certified Forensics Analyst (GCFA) Silver certification, demonstrating his knowledge, skills and abilities in handling advanced incident handling scenarios, conducting formal incident investigations and carrying out forensic investigation of networks and hosts.

The GIAC, or Global Information Assurance Certification, was founded in 1999 by the SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security (SANS) Institute as a way to address the need to validate the skills of security professionals. The goal of GIAC is to provide assurance that a certified individual holds the appropriate level of knowledge and skill necessary for a practitioner in key areas of information security. GIAC certifications are unique in that they measure specific skill knowledge areas rather than merely general purpose security knowledge.

“This is a great accomplishment for Paul that really complements his other security credentials,” noted Trent R. Hein, Applied Trust’s CEO. “His diverse and deep information security skill set is an excellent example of the technical expertise that Applied Trust provides to its clients, assuring them they are in extremely competent hands no matter what their security needs may be,” he added.

Nelson also holds the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer: Security Certification and the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, one of the most highly respected international credential for recognizing a person’s exemplary knowledge, skills and abilities in essential areas of the information security field.

GIAC is considered to be the first true technical security certification, with the first GIAC professionals certified in back in February of 2000. Currently, there are more than 18,000 GIAC-certified professionals worldwide.
