Boulder, Colo.-based Applied Trust Engineering has been ranked fourth in revenue among network security firms in Boulder and Broomfield counties, according to survey results published by The Boulder County Business Report in its February 24, 2005 edition. As with the previous network security survey, published in the June 25, 2004 edition of The Boulder County Business Report, it’s important to note that this ranking was based purely on gross revenue; many international companies that manufacture and sell a wide array of technology products were included without identifying the security-related portion of their revenue.

The ranking represents an improvement over last year’s survey, when Applied Trust was ranked sixth in revenue. Of the 18 companies ranked then, Applied Trust had the highest revenue growth from 2002 to 2003; the company’s revenues increased by nearly 30 percent, from $850,000 to $1.1 million.
Of the top four companies ranked in the current survey, Applied Trust had the highest revenue growth from 2003 to 2004. Revenue increased to $1.6 million from $1.1 million, an increase of 45 percent. The top-ranked company, Computer Associates International, had a 5 percent increase, while second-ranked Performance Enhancements had no increase, and third-ranked Aardvark It Solutions had a 10 percent increase.
Of the top four ranked companies, Applied Trust also had the highest reported number of Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSPs) on staff.
