Applied Trust Consultant Earns Elite GIAC Gold Security Certification
BOULDER, Colo. -- [May 27, 2008] –- Applied Trust Engineering‘s Terry Morreale has earned the GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) Gold certification, an accomplishment attained by only 20 percent of those who earn the GCIH certification.

“This is a fantastic accomplishment for Terry, and we’re glad to have been able to support her efforts to achieve it,” noted Trent R. Hein, Applied Trust’s CEO. “Strong communication skills in the IT consulting industry are as important as strong technical skills, and the GIAC Gold GCIH certification confirms that Terry’s incident handling expertise comprises both.”

The GCIH certification is designed to demonstrate an individual’s knowledge, skills, and abilities in managing security incidents, in understanding and defending against common attack techniques and tools, and in responding to such attacks when they occur. Gold certification represents deeper knowledge of the subject area and requires that candidates research and write a detailed technical report or white paper. Candidates work closely with an advisor while developing their technical report. Once complete, the report is reviewed for acceptance into the GIAC Reading Room and the student is awarded the GIAC Gold level of certification.

GIAC Gold certification shows that not only has Morreale mastered the subject area, but also that she is qualified to research and share her knowledge with others. Morreale’s report, titled “Incident Handling for SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises),” is available at the following URL: http://www.giac.org/certified_professionals/practicals/GCIH/01708.php.

The SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) Institute founded GIAC – Global Information Assurance Certification – in 1999, as a way to address the need to validate the skills of security professionals. GIAC’s purpose is to provide assurance that a certified individual holds the appropriate level of knowledge and skill necessary for a practitioner in key areas of information security. GIAC certifications are unique in that they measure specific skill knowledge areas instead of general purpose security knowledge. The first GIAC professionals were certified in February of 2000; today there are more than 21,000 GIAC-certified professionals worldwide.

Morreale also holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification, a highly respected international credential for recognizing a person’s exemplary knowledge, skills, and abilities in essential areas of the information security field.
