Founded in 1908, The Children's Hospital is a private, not-for-profit pediatric health care network. It is consistently ranked one of the best children's hospitals in America by U.S. News & World Report and other publications. As the most prominent pediatric care center in the region, TCH is in the spotlight not only related to medicine, but also as a leader in Information Technology applications. Using the latest in technology, clinicians at TCH provide consults to other hospitals and pediatricians throughout the Rocky Mountain region, electronically transferring patient records and images between organizations. Recently, as part of its HIPAA Security Rule compliance plan and with the help of Applied Trust, TCH rolled out a secure messaging platform. Designed to facilitate secure email communication between TCH and outside institutions and patients, the "SAFEmail" project assumes that neither TCH staff nor the outside party has the time or desire to install and learn new tools for communication. | Rather, based on a "lowest common denominator," secure communication is provided through familiar, easy-to-use interfaces.
